The world has changed a lot since 2020, have you changed too?
Our old assumptions about how work must be done are fading, and we have been reborn into a new era of working-from-home. For many there are no more commutes and meetings can be held from your bedroom. Hell, even the Scottish government is considering trailing the four-day work week. Times are changing!
But it’s not just politicians, managers and commercially rented office building landlords that need to re-evaluate. It’s you too.
You will certainly have heard before the most overused cliché in the world of work: Be Your Own Boss. So overused it has almost lost all meaning and become just another lazy inspirational quote. The sort of quote you might see overlaying a photo of some smartly dressed bloke holding a mug of coffee and staring out the window to some far away dreamlands.
But take it seriously for a moment and ask yourself, could you be your own boss? Has corporate bureaucracy started to feel stifling or restricting? Do you really need to go to that meeting?
There comes a point when being managed becomes a distraction, one that knocks you off course. When you’ve developed a style of working that fits you and you’re taking creative, decisive decisions to reach new goals, without being prompted to by your higher-ups.
It’s time to consider how things could be if you went your own way. It might lead you to ask questions about what you really want out of your (warning, another horrifying cliché coming up) work/life balance.
Life is for living, and if you could get greater control over your work life, and more money from your billings, why wouldn’t you?
Which leads you to the most difficult question of all: What exactly is stopping you?
